  1. Hi Kevin,

If you can tell me what you've tried?

    See below image..

    1. I've clicked on the tool bar button to set the background image (selected an image file)

    2. clicked on the pencil and use the mouse to left click on the bottom left (see the red dots, i'm part way through building this shape)

    3. click save and we have new shape, note: no need to close the shape it will automatically connect the last dot and first dot (the green line)

Let me know how you go

Note: you can also copy and paste the points from excel

    Regards

  2. Hi Mick,

Thanks for the comment, I think it does take some time getting used to, but I like the consistency of the new layout the most.
We've had a few people really dislike it, who have persevered; and after a while actually start to like it.
They went back to an old model using previous 5.1 and found it hard to use.

We think its a better solution in the long run and gives more flexibility, however we will continue to support the old layout and keep the option there.

So it is simply a user preference, if you like the old, stick with it no worries, its just a choice of interface style.
New users find the new layout easier to use, so will be the default for new users.

Don't worry we'll continue to support the old style and keep it up to date so you won't miss any new functionality using it.

Hope that helps allay any fears.

Regards & thanks for the feedback

  3. New Design for Editing airway properties

VentSim 5.2 introduces a new layout for the editing of airways.

We believe the new layout makes it easier to learn, more consistent, intuitive and generally easier to find and edit the property you’re looking for.
We’ve tried our best to design the new layout to be very similar if not identical to the old layout.
i.e using the same grouping and order of properties, the same number of tabs and icon designs.

Why change a perfectly good system?

Because some of our users requested it
We’ve had quite a few users, requesting us to modernize the UI and clean up what can be viewed as a somewhat cluttered properties dialog

    Other Benefits

    • Hiding and collapsing of the different categories (see screenshots below)
    • Consistency across tabs
    • Layers are all grouped together
    • Better support for multiple languages
    • Using a grid will give us more flexibility in the future to allow people to customize which rows to show and hide, some users have also requested to be able to dock the different tabs, so you can view the different tabs at the same time etc.…

    Mixed Reaction from our users

Change can be tough, and the new interface does take some getting used to.
But after the initial reactions of “What the!” We’ve got some good feedback.

But don’t worry if your one of those who likes the old design

and would really prefer to stick with it.

    We’ve got you covered!

Just switch back to the old one…

We’ve made it ultra-simple (See screen shot below) just right-click and select
    “Switch to Old Edit Box…”
and if in future you’d like to give it another go in the future, just right-click “Switch to New Edit Box…”

    New change coming today!

    • A couple of people have suggested some changes to simplify the resistance selection to reduce number of clicks required, now you can just drop and select the pre-set instead of needed to select the pre-set category first.  (see screen shot below)

    1822876589_changeback.png.49fc8212ee9f23c9913e58068803e8ea.png

Right click and select “Switch To Old Edit Box…”

  6. A new feature in VentSim 5.2 is a new docking panel called "Model Explorer"

This is designed to quickly allow you to navigate to different items in the ventilation network.

To access this view go to Tools | Model Explorer Menu

    image.thumb.png.3fe4eb0975feea95f4af9c2c358eda54.png

This will open up the new docking panel, by default this is docked to the left of the screen.

The model explorer will list all fans, fixed flows, regulators etc.. that are currently being used in the model.
To quickly navigate to a fan for instance, you can double click on the fan and the 3D view will center on the fan.

In the below image the AFN fan has been selected (double-clicked) and the 3D graphics has focused on the fan

    1246817908_modelexplorer2.thumb.png.b1f4c537966a4ef69e0ae115de656794.png

To modify the display options right-click and the below context menu will be displayed

    1100889541_modelexplorer3.thumb.png.c606bc326ff79e5840ab9f8e776cfc64.png

By default the list is sorted by elevation and grouped using primary and secondary layers

Model Explorer is a quick way to navigate around unfamiliar models, please let us know if you find this new feature useful.

  7. A new feature in VentSim 5.2 is the new custom shape builder, making it easy to create custom tunnel profiles

Navigate with-in VentSim to the Settings | Presets menu, and select Tunnel Profiles

Create a new profile and click on the profile image, and the new custom shape builder will be shown.
Select an image to trace over and save, note: the last point will automatically connect to the first point.

  10. After talking with Surpac support they just need to make sure they save to text not binary format.

    Customize>Plug in Preferences

    surpac1.png.f8fa981d3e488dc948729eb9a6b16ec8.png

click on the Surpac tab, and tick the box for text

    surpac2.png.22d3f40fc3b10d0bd3f96373ba853211.png

    Restart Surpac.

You will now be able to edit the string file like in previous versions.

  11. A new feature introduced in VentSim 5.2 is a new way of applying changes to a specific stage(s).

In the below example a fan will be installed in the airway in a future stage (production) but in the preliminary stages the airway has no fan.

Step 1 – Select the airway

    image.png.c4518d55da532e01c6fdd22fd4853f2d.png

Step 2 – Make the changes required  i.e  add a fan to the airway

    image.png.8f32045a0b26cc0724dc4dffe26e998d.png

Step 3 – Instead of clicking apply (which applies to the current stage), Go To Tools Menu and select “Apply to Specific Stages…” (see below)

    image.thumb.png.b8f429439000c5b0605bf1484a3b6d12.png

A small dialog box will be shown, and you need to select which stage(s) the changes will be applied to.

    image.png.516c0b9a70e20cbcc87f1e96f0eb862a.png

    Step 4 – The result

In the Preliminary Stage (i.e no change)

    image.png.3691f8a7b25bd2d9e4b40c5e37d8e976.png

AND In the Production Stage (a fan is located on the airay)

  12. Hi Risto

Thanks for letting us know, if possible could you please send the surpac file to support@ventsim.com

Also check if your using the latest version of 5.1 we've fixed a couple issues with the importing a while ago, so I'm hoping this one has been fixed.

    Thanks
