Adding a Positive Displacement Pump in Pumpsim DESIGN

Pumpsim DESIGN (version 1.0.0.4636 or later) has been updated to improve the way a positive displacement pump is added in Pumpsim DESIGN

Positive displacement pumps operate similarly to a fixed flow pump providing certain flow of fluid per pump stroke.

I have attached to this post a short video on setting up positive displacement pump in the Pumps form of Pumpsim DESIGN.

I have also added a simple model which has a positive displacement pump called "ACME pump"

Open the Pumps form form the main menu selecting Tools -> Pumps

On the Pumps form click on the "Add Positive Displacement Pump"

Then

  1. add a Name for the pump
  2. add the Rated Flow which should be given by the manufactures specification. This figure is required and needs to be in the units used for quantity in the model.
  3. add the pump operating RPM. This is the RPM of the pump cylinder/s not the pump motor RPM. This should also be should be given by the manufactures specification. If this figure is not available you can just add 100 as figure is only use to figure out the flow per revolution.
  4. add the pumps motor power if available (is optional). This is just used it calculate power consumption.

Click OK and now the pump can be assigned to an individual pump in the model

When the positive displacement pump is selected for a pump the Rate Flow and Operating RPM is displayed for it operating at 100%

Changes to any of these 3 values will recalculate the other 2 values.

When a flow simulation is run on the model the positive displacement pumps will produce the rate flow of fluid.

For multiple positive displacement pumps you will need to create an individual pump for each instance.
