  1. Howden's Ventsim has been busy working on a new version of Ventsim. Focused on key improvment to help the every day ventilation engineer and the expert engineer, Ventsim 5.4 will be released soon including the following features: Duct calculator Dynamic simulation rewind Advanced message boxes Overpass builder And much more To find out more, go to: https://ventsim.com/?p=3779 If you would like to try the Beta, contact me at florian.michelin@howden.com .
  2. Hi Roy, We have added it in version 5.4. The Beta will be out soon. Let us know your feedback!
  3. Hi Roy, You are correct, the 100% green bar doesnt mean much anymore and shouldnt be a problem. I am concerned that some of your model was not imported properly. Could you share the dxf to check why some parts didn't import? Florian
  4. The first VentSim User Conference will happen in 2022 in Brisbane, Australia. With a range of presentation from industry professionals and the Howden VentSim team, it would be the perfect place to learn and share about VentSim. If you are unable to attend, online attendance is possible. For more information head to our webpage: https://ventsim.com/ventsim-user-conference-announced/ or contact us at ventsim@howden.com .
  5. Hi, unfortunately, heat simulation is not available in the Lite version. However, saving should be possible however. We are offering VentSim to universities for free, so if your university does not have access to VentSim yet they an contact us at ventsim@howden.com for more information on how they can access the full version. Regards,
  6. Hi, I tried here and it seems to work fine. Which attributes are you copying?
  7. Hi Monika, We have many cusotmer asking similar questions and we are working with Deswik on improving the transition from Deswik to VentSim. The merge function currently has an issue that we are fixing. I will let you know when it is done. The copy function should work. Do you use the Paste True Coordinate (merge presets) function? It would also help us if you could send us your models so we can try the merge and paste function. You can send them to florian.michelin@howden.com. Regards, Florian
  8. Hi Mick, The best way would be to setup a VentFire script. You would have to setup a resistance with no or low resistance for the open door. Then setup the script to open the door. Place a few monitors before running the simulation and run the fire simulation. The monitors can be opened with the zoom function.
  9. Hi Jorge, Try to toggle the bottom button like on my screenshot. This will display the start value, end value or average value. It shows negative on yours because it is the average value. Florian
  10. Hi Tonny, In file explorer, open where your image are located then left click, hold and drag the image onto where you want the image on your model (on top of the old icon). Keep in mind that this is only possible when a preset has been created for the demand device/pump. Regards,
  11. Hi Alex, I believe we are still calculating the meshes even tho it is not used in the simulation so we should be able to add it in the list. For the highest resistance, do you mean in the select path? We will see what we can do, I am not sure how you would use it in this case. It would tend to go through the entire mine by default. Florian
  12. Hi Riian, See the screenshot below. It seems similar to what you are describing and seems to work fine for me. Could you send me the model at florian.michelin@howden.com so I can look at what may be the issue? The fix flow on the right provide a fix flow of 10l/s, filling up a first tank. Once above 4m, it overflow by channel onto a second one.
  13. Yes, there is a dynamic explosive simulator. Open the ariway where the blast happens and go to the contaminant tab. There: Select the explosive type. You can add more explosive type by clicking ... Enter the quantity of explosive Select the dispersion factor: how easily will the fume be picked up by the airflow. Then add some monitors in the model to graph the change in gas at this location. Click on the pie chart icon on the toolbar then on the airway you wish to monitor. Run the explosive simulation under the contaminant menu. To open a monitor, use the zoom function (magnifying glass).
  14. A new feature in VentSim 5.2 is the possibility to view the distance to the closest surface or refuge bay from each airway. Before using this tool 2 important step are required for accurate results: Placing the different refuge bay in the model. Edit the airway, in the fire tab. Select “Refuge Bay” Setting airways that cannot be passed through. Edit the airway, in the fire tab, select “No thoroughfare”. It can also be set for a specific resistance in the preset. If so any airway with this preset will be “No thoroughfare”. Note: Blocked airways and ducts are No thoroughfare. Once that is done set the colour to Descriptors | Distance From Refuge Bay. This will colour airways by their distance to the closest refuge bay or surface. The option distance from surface. The light pink airways are the No Thoroughfare airways set to a far away distance. We can see that some airways are bright pink, indicating a high distance to the closest refuge chamber. Standard colour scaling can be used to filter airway per distance to refuge chambers. The distance for each airway is taken in the middle of the airway.
  15. Hi Chris, We are still working on resolving this issue, will let you know when sorted. Sorry for the inconvenience. Regards
  16. Just to confirm, you have exported the file as a Ventsim file, aka with a file with a .vsm extension? If that is the case all VentSim file are saved and loaded in metric units. The display may be switched from metric the imperial but the value saved are always the metric one. So what I would do in this case is export the model in metric then once in VentSim go to Settings | Units and change the units to imperial. I will contact Deswik support about this issue.
  17. Hi, I am guessing that you want the valve to open gradually as the water raises? I don't see any easy way to do it but I think setting up a script to the open the valve for different water level. What kind of information do you have about the effect of the water level on the valve setting? If you want me to have a detail look, please send the email at florian.michelin@howden.com Florian

  19. The irregular selection tool allows you to select airways using an irregular shape i.e Perfect for selecting belt roads or the stoppings easily A video explaining how to use it can be found at: www.ventsim.com/uploads/Irregular%20selection.mp4 The tool can be found in the select menu and has shortcuts to enable and disable it. 2 options are available: Select Irregular | Full Airway Inside Both ends of the airway will need to be in the zone to be selected. Select Irregular | Part Of Airway Inside Any airway that has an end in the zone or intersect the zone will be selected. Left click will add points to the selection. The selection is defined by a white line, there is no limit to the irregular shape or number of points. To finish and select what is inside the irregular shape, click near the first point or double click (will loop the zone back to the starting point). Note: This also works with the paste attribute function. Ie: Selecting the stoppings in a coal mine: (“Part Of Airway” Option ON) Left Image is the irregular shape, right image is the resulting selection! OR another example (draw a line through multiple airways, and the resultant selection is shown below in the second image) One straight line with double click on one side: Let me know if you think this well make things easier?
  20. The time is the time it takes to close the valve. The pressure is an increment so will need to be added to the normal pressure.
  21. Hi Jorge, Sorry for the delay. You can find a water hammer tool in the Tools | Calculator. The naming here could be improved. Regards,
  22. Hi Saruul, No it has not been reported yet, sorry for the inconvenience. Could you share some more details with us so we can get it fixed? Like a video or some step on how it happened? Regards,
  23. Hi, Another customer had a similar issue recently and we uploaded a new version to fix a disappearing issue. I hope this latest version fixes your problem. If it doesn't, please send us your model at support@ventsim.com. I did not see this duct change here, do you know what triggers the custom values? Is it after simulating or editing a large amount of airway...? We are very concerned about the issue you are experiencing and we will do our best to fix it a soon as possible. Florian
  24. Hi, The main thing that come to mind at the moment is possible hidden airway before importing, try to do show all before importing. If that does not work, the best thing is probably to send us your model at support@ventsim.com. Florian
  25. Hi, Here are a few things to look at: Look at the number of airways at the bottom of the screen: if the number does not change after simulation it is a visibility issue. Try: right click and show all and see if the airways come back. The airway might be hidden for some of the following reasons. Check if the View>Hide Zero Flow is turned on, it is possible that those airways are imported with flow from previous simulation but no flow after running the simulation. Some of the value range might be hidden. If the number of airways is smaller after simulation: Are you copying the airways at the same place as other airways in the model? If 2 airways are at the same position, one will be deleted after simulation and the one of the airway could be hidden. If none of the above works, you might want to get the latest version from our website: http://www.ventsim.com/download/current-downloads/ If it is still an issue, send us the model at support@ventsim.com. Florian
